Viking House

WCR Property has developed a number of offices on its Beechwood Business Park site, each was part of an evolving process as the business invested heavily in sustainable development. That process included a number of fact find management trips to Freiberg in Germany – this culminated in hiring a German Architect to design and build England’s first Passivhaus office which is now known as Viking House, completed in 2011.

The Passivhaus office won an Estates Gazette ‘Green Building’ award in 2011 and was let shortly after completion to a Maritime Recruitment business.

The building is 5,000 sq ft and is chock-a-block with unique energy saving features. Suffice to say the German specification is so advanced it is beyond categorisation in the UK’s EPC system. 3 energy Assessors were all asked to produce an EPC, each found it impossible with the software the UK Government issue to allow the process to be completed. The Passivhaus system has been described as the “gold standard in energy efficiency”.
